Orpheus Balkan Beat Brass Band

Play and perform the rhythmic folk music of the Eastern Mediterranean in a Balkan style brass band! 

The Orpheus Balkan Beat Brass Band is a unique opportunity for popular band instruments to explore the danceable rhythmic music of the Balkans, Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean area.

Seeking band and folk instruments including:

  • Trumpets, trombones, baritones, tubas.
  • Saxophones, clarinets, flutes, and other band instruments.
  • Accordions
  • Percussion 

Parts for all levels.  Learn by ear and with written music.

  • Thursday, September 20th 6:30 – 8:30 pm – OPEN HOUSE & ENROLLMENT
  • Thursdays – 6:30 – 7:30pm   September 27th – November 15 – REHEARSALS

Registration fee:

  • $185 for 8 sessions and a performance
  • Ask us about discounts for multiple enrollment for family members, students and music teachers.

balkan-orph.jpgThe Orpheus Balkan Beat Brass Band is a student and community band open to all ages and playing levels. Drawing the from folk music of Greece, the Balkans, and other areas, directors George Lawler and Eve Monzingo create arrangements written specifically for band members. Each rehearsal features a new piece and reviews of previous pieces all leading up to a final performance to be announced.


The musical repertoire includes music from Greece, the Balkans, and Levantine coast, and North Africa.   This program teaches the folk rhythms and eastern scale modes of the Mediterranean area.Screen Shot 2018-07-22 at 4.39.59 PM

The teachers, Eve Monzingo and George Lawler have directed the Orpheus music group since 2007, and have also studied and performed a wide variety of music from countries in the Mediterranean area.  Their full artist bios can be found here.

The Orpheus Hellenic Folklore Society, established in 1989, seeks to perpetuate the rich history and traditions of Greek folk dances, songs, and music.  The organization has performed at a wide variety of national and international multicultural events, educational institutions and public venues.  This year they have expanded their music program to include the Balkan Beat Brass Band in collaboration with music teachers Eve Monzingo and George Lawler.Screen Shot 2018-07-27 at 3.45.18 PM.png
